Dr. Schaeffer worked at Merck Research Labs (MRL) for 25 years where his research focused primarily on neuroendocrine-related projects. He subsequently moved to San Diego as Merck’s “Science Scout” on the West Coast., Dr. Schaeffer was directly involved in the formation of a partnership between Merck and Dr. Peter Schultz which lead to the establishment of CALIBR. Dr. Schaeffer Jim has co-founded several biotech companies including Genesis Therapeutics and continues to consult for nascent start-ups.
